Draft Profile: Bio
Ahmaad Moses from Arlington, Texas, earned District 4-5A Co-Defensive MVP honors at Mansfield Summit High School while helping the team reach the state semifinals. Three-star ratings from ESPN (77), 247 Sports (0.84), and Rivals (5.5) reflected solid recruitment interest.College offers trickled in slowly until Marshall broke the ice, followed by Memphis, Georgia Tech, Houston, Louisiana Tech, UTSA, and Tulane. SMU won out, landing the Arlington native who chose to stay close to home. Moses has appeared in 37 games over three seasons, accumulating over 1,000 defensive snaps while steadily increasing his production from 27 tackles as a freshman to 46 as a sophomore.
His junior season delivered a breakout campaign with 73 tackles, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble. The performance earned him ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after his two-interception game against TCU, including a 60-yard pick-six. He capped the year with All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition while starting four games and appearing in all 14 contests for the Mustangs.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Exceptional ball skills and hands – attacks the football with the aggression of a receiver making contested catches
- Reads quarterback's eyes like a seasoned veteran, consistently jumping routes before the ball leaves the passer's hand
- Willing and physical tackler who arrives with bad intentions and delivers solid contact in open-field situations
- Shows good range in coverage, tracking deep balls effectively and providing reliable help over the top
- Demonstrates elite football IQ, diagnosing plays pre-snap and adjusting coverage responsibilities based on offensive alignment and motion
- Plays with infectious energy and swagger that elevates teammates' performance and creates momentum-shifting moments for the defense
- Versatile coverage skills allow him to match slot receivers and provide help in multiple coverage schemes
- Natural playmaker who consistently finds ways to impact games beyond the stat sheet through deflections and quarterback pressures
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Inconsistent tackling technique leads to missed opportunities, particularly when attempting to make plays in space against bigger ball carriers
- Speed limitations show up in coverage against elite burners, as he lacks true recovery speed
- Can be overly aggressive in pursuit, taking poor angles that allow ball carriers to slip tackles and gain extra yards
- Needs to improve consistency in zone coverage drops, occasionally getting caught in no-man's land between coverage responsibilities
- Struggles with leverage against bigger tight ends and receivers when asked to cover them in isolation situations
Scouting Report: Summary
Moses enters the draft as a coverage-first safety whose instincts and ball skills mask some physical limitations. His ability to read quarterbacks and create turnovers will appeal to NFL defensive coordinators, though his limited speed means he'll need help from the scheme on vertical routes against top-tier receivers. The tackling inconsistencies that show up on tape suggest he's better suited as a back-end defender rather than a box safety asked to handle primary run fits against power schemes. His best fit comes in defenses that prioritize coverage over run support, where his exceptional man-to-man skills can be maximized while his struggles against the run become less of a factor. Moses thrives when allowed to play centerfield or patrol underneath zones, but asking him to cover big slot receivers or tight ends in isolation exposes his physical limitations. Teams that rotate multiple safeties and can hide his weaknesses while showcasing his coverage strengths will get the most value from his skill set.
The upside is real for a player who consistently finds ways to impact games through turnovers and pass breakups, but the floor remains concerning given his tackling struggles and limited recovery speed. Moses needs the right defensive coordinator who understands how to deploy him effectively – put him in position to make plays on the ball while limiting his exposure in run support.
