Draft Profile: Bio
Jamaree Caldwell, a defensive tackle from Oregon, began his collegiate journey at Independence Community College before transferring to Houston. At Houston, Caldwell made an immediate impact, appearing in 20 games over two seasons. He amassed 39 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks during his tenure with the Cougars.

Caldwell's junior year at Houston showcased his disruptive abilities. In 11 games, he recorded 27 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. His performance ranked him fifth in the Big 12 with 6.5 sacks and fourth with 0.59 sacks per game. Caldwell's production spiked late in the season, notching 5.5 TFLs and 4.5 sacks in a four-game stretch, demonstrating his ability to finish strong.

After two productive seasons at Houston, Caldwell entered the transfer portal and committed to Oregon. As a four-star transfer prospect, he was rated as the No. 17 overall player available in the portal and the No. 2 defensive lineman, behind only Walter Nolen. Caldwell's arrival at Oregon provides much-needed depth and experience to the Ducks' defensive line unit.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Squatty build with natural leverage allows him to play with a good pad level and anchor against double teams
  • Exhibits a quick get-off at the snap, showing the ability to shoot gaps and disrupt blocking schemes
  • Displays good lateral agility and short-area quickness for a big man, aiding in his ability to stack and shed
  • Heavy hands at the point of attack help him control blockers and disengage efficiently
  • High-motor player who brings a blue-collar mentality to the trenches, consistently playing through the whistle
  • Scheme versatile with the ability to two-gap or penetrate, making him valuable in multiple fronts
  • Shows good instincts and play recognition, quickly diagnosing run vs. pass and reacting accordingly
  • Shows leadership qualities and a strong work ethic, potentially becoming a locker room presence at the next level
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Lacks length for the position, which can hinder his ability to keep offensive linemen off his frame
  • Pass rush repertoire is limited; relies heavily on bull rush and power moves, needs to develop counter moves
  • Can get washed out by combination blocks and double teams when he doesn't win with initial quickness
  • Pad level can rise as he fatigues, negating his natural leverage advantage in longer drives
  • Tackling efficiency needs improvement; occasionally fails to wrap up and finish plays in the backfield
Scouting Report: Summary
Caldwell brings a powerful, high-motor presence to the interior defensive line. His squatty build and natural leverage make him an asset in run defense, while his quickness off the snap allows him to penetrate and disrupt in the backfield. In the NFL, Caldwell will likely fit best as a 3-technique in a 4-3 scheme or as a 5-technique in a 3-4 front.

His ability to two-gap and eat up blocks will be valuable on early downs, potentially allowing him to contribute immediately as a rotational piece. To become a three-down player at the next level, Caldwell will need to expand his pass-rush arsenal and improve his ability to disengage from blocks consistently.

Caldwell's experience against high-level competition in the Big 12 and his projected growth under Oregon's coaching staff should help him transition to the NFL game. His combination of power, quickness, and motor make him an intriguing mid-round prospect for teams looking to bolster their defensive line rotation.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
