Still no changes here and not an awful lot to say about this pick - the ultimate no brainer - a team with nothing at QB, with a new coach, in need of a new direction and the best player in the draft being at a premium position and fitting an enormous need. I am sure that they will still drag it out on the night for maximum drama though!

Previously we had the Falcons swapping picks with the Jets - with the Niners moving to the #3 pick you have to imagine they offered the same deal to the Jets and for them to have turned down such a great haul it must be because they have set their hearts on a QB - most likely Wilson.
#3 |
QB |
Niners move up to #3 and it must be to get someone they see as a franchise QB - a lot of reports are suggesting Jones but that feels like a real stretch and Fields seems more likely.

Falcons may stay still or they may try to move up to swap picks with the Jets to get the QB that they want (but as noted above it doesn't seem like the Jets want to move out of their slot) - if they like Mac Jones then that could easily be the choice here - certainly a safer pick that Trey Lance.

OT |

Bengals are still happy and get the player they most need - the Bengals have their QB of the future and so need to keep him upright - and the Bengal's bottom 3 ranked offensive line failed to do that in 2020 - Burrow was sacked 32 times (t-2nd most) and to 42 hits (t-5th most) over the first 11 weeks of the season (before suffering a season ending injury) - Sewell is the answer to Joe's prayers.

WR |
The Phins have traded from 12 back up to 6 so there must be someone they have their eye on that they think they can still get here following a run on QBs - the top WR is still a real possibility they signed Will Fuller in free agency but is he capable of being a true #1 - why not draft Smith a player you would have taken at #3 so in effect you get the same player and a free first round pick and a bit more

WR |

The Lions are happy - following on from the Stafford trade I no longer have the Lions taking a QB to build around as due to the contract they will be stuck with Goff for a year or two at least and so even a developmental prospect like Trey Lance seems too early now - so instead they go with an exciting prospect at WR with their top receivers eligible to hit free agency and this time around Chase is available so it gets even better for them. Signing Tyrell Williams does not detract from the need here.

I still see the Panthers going for a QB but this time around only Lance is still on the Board - they need someone to be the face of the franchise post-Cam Newton and get the fan base excited for the future - Lance is a real boom-bust prospect so the Panthers better hope its the former.

CB |

The Broncos still need help at cornerback - and Farley continues to gain ground heading into the draft over the other DB prospects. Caleb will be an upgrade to their secondary and solidify the position for a long time.
#10 |
CB |
Sticking with back-to -back CB picks as Surtain comes off the board - CB is a premium position and we would expect to see a couple every first round - there were not many teams that gave up more passing touchdowns in 2020 than the Cowboys (and their defense as a whole was bad). After signing Prescott to a mega deal the Cowboys better start hoping they hit with a lot of their draft picks.

Giants fans are happy as this time around one of the top receiving prospects is still on the board and so they switch picks to bring in the best tight end prospects.
#12 |
WR |

The board plays out quite nicely for the Eagles - a couple of the top receiving prospects are on the Board and Waddle is the pick here (just over Bateman).
#13 |
OT |

The Chargers look to have a star in the making in Herbert and need to make sure that they keep him on the field and the Chargers still grab a big body for the line but this time around it is Darrisaw.

LB |
The Vikings bring Parsons' slide down the board to a halt. The Vikings need more talent at linebacker especially with Barr having a number of injuries this season and carrying a huge hit against the cap.
#15 |

WR |
Patriots still go with Bateman but feeling a bit more positive about it after his impressive pro day showing.
#16 |

CB |

Cardinals are pretty happy with how this has played out - they have a big need at cornerback and one of the top prospects is still available this time around after the Niners go in a different direction this time.

DE |

The board has worked out kindly for the Raiders with the top pass rusher still available (though it seems unlikely that someone would not have made a move for him sooner via a trade or otherwise - still why not give the Raiders a bit of love here)
#18 |
LB |
The Phins still have their second first round pick this year and we still have them looking to address their issues at linebacker with Owusu.
#19 |
OT |
Football team are no longer able to take their QB of the future as they are all long gone - instead they look to shore up their offensive line so to help protect Fitzpatrick who they picked up in free agency.
#20 |
WR |
The Bears are feeling gutted - all the top receivers are gone, Jones is gone who was also a possibility - lots of possibilities but sticking with a receiver, just feels like a bit more of a reach.
#21 |
OT |
Having grabbed their QB of the immediate future at least in the deal to take Stafford the Colts are certainly going to need to shore up their O-line so the pick of a tackle makes even more sense than in the last mock - Cosmi's stock seems to have fallen a bit of late so switching the pick to Slater.
#22 |
DE |
A change here for the Titans with Rousseau slipping down the board a bit - lots of offensive skill players going early has left lots of really talented defensive prospects available to them - Rousseau was on the best outside defenders in 2019 (opting out of 2020) - a boom or bust prospect with limited tape he seems worth the risk here.
#23 |
RB |
A new QB needs a good running game to take some of the pressure off and as it stands the Jets don't have that - and so while it seems like a bit of a waste to spend a first round pick on a RB this nevertheless makes sense.
#24 |
OT |
Steelers are still taking a player on the offensive line as the Steelers look to protect Ben as best they can in his final season or two.
#25 |
OT |
The Jags get some help to protect Lawrence - this time around Darrisaw is gone and so they look to Mayfield instead as we see a bit of a run of offensive line players. Some really good defensive players left on the Board and so they may feel there is better value elsewhere.
#26 |
OLB |
Browns are pleased to see in this mock that Ojulari has slipped a couple of spots - a quick, versatile and powerful presence - he can become a cornerstone for the Browns
#27 |
WR |
No change here - the only way the Ravens are going to beat the Chiefs is to score more points than them and so they need to mix things up with their run heavy offense to keep defenses honest - so they look to strengthen their WR corps.
#28 |
S |
Saints are feeling happy - instead of reaching for a CB prospect the best safety in the draft falls into their laps.
#29 |
WR |
Again, no change in position but a change in player - I cannot see Rodgers playing anywhere other than Green bay in 2021 and the Packers clearly need to keep Rodgers happy and what QB doesn't like a new toy to throw to - and they have been very quiet in free agency outside of bringing in some help at the running back spot.
#30 |
OG |
No need for any change here - a great value pick at this point, one of the top offensive line prospects in the draft and you can never have too many good players along the line as the Bills look to solidify their position at the top of the AFC East
#31 |
LB |
Again no change here - Mahomes getting paid means that sacrifices have to be made elsewhere on the squad and one area where the Chiefs may find themselves having to make difficult decisions is at LB and so Collins makes good sense here after slipping a little in this draft.
#32 |
DT |
No change here as the Bucs decided instead to add some youth to their defensive line, which could see some expensive departures during free agency. |
