Tom Bradys Full House- A Look at the Quarterbacks NFL Legacy and Beyond
Regardless of how long you’ve been tuning in to the National Football League (NFL), there’s a big chance you’ve heard of Tom Brady,
widely known as the greatest quarterback of all time.
After all, Brady has the stats to back it up, as he is the only player to have won five Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards. Specifically, Brady was presented with the highly coveted MVP award in 2002, 2004, 2015, and 2017 with the New England Patriots and in 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In addition to this achievement, Brady holds many major records throughout his career as a professional football quarterback for 23 seasons. Below, we highlight some of the key moments of Tom Brady’s journey in the NFL, while also looking at his legacy beyond the playing field.
Tom Brady’s journey in the NFL
Tom Brady’s passion for football can be traced back to his college career, when he played at the University of Michigan for the Wolverines from 1995 to 1999. Brady ranked third in Michigan history with 710 attempts and 442 completions but was not one of the top prospects for the NFL scouting.
He was only selected in the sixth round of the 2000 draft by the New England Patriots, where he started his rookie season as a fourth-string quarterback. In 2002, Brady took over as a starting quarterback and won his first Super Bowl victory with the Patriots. Brady would then go on to be a major contributor to the Patriots’ dynasty, helping the franchise win six Super Bowl victories and setting team records like most games played (285), most regular season wins (219), and most straight seasons with 10+ wins (13).
In 2008, Brady suffered a major injury after tearing both his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) during a season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he showcased impressive drive, athleticism, and resilience, setting an NFL record for most touchdowns in a quarter upon his return in 2009.
After his sixth Super Bowl win with the Patriots, Brady signed a $50 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom he won his seventh Super Bowl victory and spent his last years before his retirement in 2023.
Beyond the NFL: Tom Brady’s philanthropic work and post-retirement career
Even before retiring in February 2023 and preparing for his induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame, Brady has already been establishing his legacy beyond the NFL. The legendary quarterback is also widely regarded for his philanthropic work, mainly through the TB12 Foundation, which was formed in 2015.
The nonprofit organization focuses on empowering young athletes, especially those from at-risk and underprivileged backgrounds. While the TB12 Foundation initially provided free post-injury rehabilitation and training, the TB12 Method that inspired the organization was also applied to select Florida schools, helping children access public health and wellness resources.
Brady has also extended his help to charity events led by his A-list friends, such as actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. In 2020, Damon and Affleck organized an online poker tournament for charity, named All In For America's Charity. The charity poker tournament was hosted by ACR Poker, which has previously run other tournaments for a cause alongside its usual promotions.
The star-studded event was streamed on Twitch and had a $10,000 buy-in. While Brady was eliminated early in the tournament with more than 40 players remaining, the event was able to raise over $1 million for the hunger relief organization Feeding America.
After retiring from his record-breaking NFL career, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback became a broadcaster for Fox Sports, with his broadcasting season kicking off in September 2024. He also returned to the 2025 Super Bowl as an announcer.
When it comes to his personal life, Brady regularly posts updates on social media, such as playing golf to spend quality time with one of his children, 17-year-old John "Jack" Edward Thomas. Aside from posting about his family, the former NFL star continues to promote a healthy lifestyle, from giving workout tips to sharing his experiences with sports and outdoor activities like golf, swimming, and fishing.
