Davante Adams Set to Follow Aaron Rodgers Out of New York Jets Setup

Wide receiver Davante Adams looks set to leave the New York Jets in free agency with a string of top teams keen to land the six-time Pro Bowl pick.

The 32-year-old effectively moved to the MetLife Stadium in October 2024 to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers, a move that for both players has proven nothing short of disastrous.

Among the teams vying for Adams’ signature are the Los Angeles Rams, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the San Francisco 49ers. There is talk of a potential return to Lambeau Field, with a romantic return to the Packers, where the Fresno State graduate spent seven years, a distinct possibility.

Fans of the New York Jets who feel that a stripping away of recent additions may help them once again challenge to end their long-running post-season drought may want to back that assertion with a bet, in which case these sportsbook promos will become invaluable, helping any potential wager become far more attractive.

The Jets want to cut costs under new head coach Aaron Glenn, and the chance to remove the $30 million cap from Adams is one they are keen to enact. As to where Adams might end up, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler commented,

'He will have options, and I'm told that he is intrigued by the West Coast,'

'You have teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, maybe San Francisco 49ers. He's from the West Coast, so it's a possibility he could end up there. Maybe the Packers want to run it back to him as well if they could be involved there.' Fowler added.

Aaron Rodgers arrived at the Jets with a big fanfare and then promptly suffered a season-ending injury within minutes of his debut. His second season, though less injury-ravaged, saw the team suffer a 5-12 record, leading to the two parting ways.

For Adams’ part, he made 11 starts last season, securing just seven touchdowns as the Jets meandered to what is now a common end-of-season slump. A hard-earned win over the New England Patriots in week three saw Robert Saleh’s side 2-1, giving the team’s long-suffering fans a little belief that a corner may have been turned, but it was not to be.

A run of seven losses in eight games put a halt to all hope and saw Saleh axed and replaced by interim head coach Lars Ulbrich, who also failed to get the team back on track. General manager Joe Douglas also lost his position, with Phil Savage being put in interim charge.

The new season sees a whole new look with Darren Mougey coming in as general manager and Glenn looking to steady things.

Owner Woody Johnson has moved to applaud Aaron Rodgers following his departure, stating,

"From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next."

As for what the future holds for the veteran quarterback, one wonders if any team is likely to repeat the move the Jets’ made, especially when you consider the whole circus that comes with the four-time NFL MVP, who undoubtedly has another season in the tank from a talent perspective, but whether the motivation is still there is another matter entirely.
