What should each top 10 team target in the 2025 NFL Draft?
The NFL playoffs run from January 11-26, followed by Super Bowl LIX on February 9. Everything this season has been building to this point and we can’t wait to see which two teams will face off at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
The action on the field ends there until next fall. The biggest event for teams and fans during the off-season is the draft. The NFL Draft is the major opportunity for teams to bolster their roster and to bring in new talent that will hopefully help shape the coming season. The Super Bowl is the single biggest betting event in the USA, and betting on football is popular throughout the season. In fact, NFL betting is such a big deal that betting on the NFL Draft is more popular than betting on some other sports.
The NFL Draft has plenty of drama, so it’s easy to understand why fans enjoy betting on it. Just watching the draft is also enjoyable – you never know if you’re seeing the moment when the next NFL superstar gets his start, or when the next draft bust is starting his path to nothing.
Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, that have had a difficult season, have plenty of options for positions to target in the 2025 draft. They will benefit from any talented young player that they bring in.
The top 10 NFL teams have a more difficult decision to make in the draft. They need to bring in new talent in a way that strengthens and reinforces their existing team. They need to balance fresh blood with experience and make sure that no egos get bruised along the way. They also need to consider the working temperament of the team and make sure new draftees are able to fit in and mesh well with the environment.
Here are our thoughts on what each top 10 team should target in the 2025 NFL Draft. We’ve used the NFL rankings from December 30 rather than the power rankings, so there might be some changes in the next few weeks.
Kansas City Chiefs
The NFL Draft order is set by the previous season’s record. It makes sense to give those teams that have been struggling the chance to scoop up some of the strongest prospects before the top teams start picking players. For the Kansas City Chiefs, their success this season could have them picking last in the first round.
The Chiefs are likely heading to their third consecutive Super Bowl. This has been an amazing few years for the team and it’s difficult to identify any serious weak spots in their roster. The one area where their bench could use some added depth is in the offensive tackle position. They drafted Kingsley Suamataia in the position last year but since he has only played in six games in 2024, it’s hard to say how well he has filled that gap.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have only three picks this year, having traded away their second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh round picks, and picked up a second fifth round pick. They will likely receive a fourth pick due to all of the free agency moves this season.
Their record this season has been impressive, showing that the Vikings are no longer a team that can be overlooked. Their lineup is strong but they have a few players with short-term contracts who may need to be replaced in this draft. We expect to see them picking up a running back to replace Aaron Jones, and a defensive tackle if Harrison Phillips ends up moving elsewhere.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions recently acquired talented defensive end Za’Darius Smith. Smith has the perfect blend of maturity, experience and talent to fill any weaknesses in the Lion’s defense and to guide younger players who are new to NFL play. In the trade, they also gave up a fifth round pick in the 2025 draft. They still have six picks this year, though two will be in the seventh round.
The Lions have one of the strongest rosters in the league. The position where they could use a bit more depth is wide receiver. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are both immensely talented but besides these two players, there are only two other wide receivers on the roster and neither have the necessary chops.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have an impressive number of draft picks this year. They’ve managed to retain seven draft picks (one in the first, and two each in the second, fourth and sixth rounds) despite all of the trades they’ve made. The Bills are likely to receive two compensatory picks as well. They’ll probably be looking to boost their defensive line, since that seems to be where they’ve been struggling this season.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have seven draft picks this year. Three of these will be in the fifth round, which could be pretty interesting for the team depending on which hopefuls get picked up in the first three rounds. There are always some surprise standouts in the last rounds of the draft. The Eagles have a serious weakness in their offensive line that needs to be addressed with some fresh talent.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have held on to all of their draft picks for 2025. The Ravens could also receive as many as four compensatory picks this draft. That gives them the ability to really shake up their roster if they want to. With possibly 12 picks, we can see the Ravens spreading them strategically across the entire field. It could lead to a little bit of Baltimore mix and match magic for 2025.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay is hosting the draft this year, so there’s an added air of anticipation about the whole event. The Packers boosted their defense in the 2024 draft, so they have a bit more freedom this time around. They have a fairly balanced team this year, so are likely to stretch their picks across positions to build depth in injury-prone positions.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have a whopping nine draft picks this year. The team has impressed everyone in the 2024 season and feels like a team that has come together as a unit. The Commanders are likely to draft at least one cornerback and potentially a safety.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have eight picks in the 2025 draft and could add as many as three compensatory picks. There are debates as to whether Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert is a weak link or if the team’s defensive line simply isn’t up to the job. With possibly 11 picks, we may see the Chargers pick up an additional quarterback and some new defensive players.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams have six draft picks, with three of those in the sixth round. The Rams have possibly the best passing attack players in the league but they aren’t protecting them. They’ll likely use most of their draft picks to bolster their defensive line with a linebacker and cornerback, like most of the other teams in the top 10 this year.
