Draft Profile: Bio
Sonny Styles from Pickerington Central High School was rated a 5-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Styles opted to join Ohio State after being heavily recruited.

In 2022 as a freshman Styles saw action in 7 games and played a total of 57 snaps at safety for the Buckeyes. He recorded only 4 tackles, one assist, while adding 3 stops. In coverage Styles notched up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 116.7.

As a sophomore in 2023 he played in 13 games and logged 543 snaps for the Buckeyes. He made 33 tackles, 18 assists, and had 18 stops. In coverage he totaled one pass breakup, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 76.5.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Has the quick, agile feet and fluid hips to mirror quickness and change direction underneath. But he’s at his best facing the action.
  • Straight-line speed to take a pick to the house. Can punish receivers with closing speed and desire to hit at max impact.
  • Has excellent ball skills, tracking the ball effectively and instinctively taking the right route to break up the play. Styles has the strong hands and coordination to come down with interceptions.
  • He tracks the ball well and does a nice job of getting his head around in plenty of time to avoid flags.
  • Has enough speed and fluidity to come down and guard slot receivers and even some tight ends in man coverage.
  • His ball skills are very good. Styles tracks the ball well downfield and has the hands and coordination to come away with interceptions even when Styles isn’t targeted often.
  • He’s a willing and capable hitter in run support and closes fast to make plays against quick screens.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Not an explosive player and needs to show better bend and flexibility in his drops - plays too high.
  • Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
  • Doesn’t have the kind of fluidity needed to mirror quicker receivers underneath.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
