Scouting Report: Strengths
- It might take him a year to get out of the habit of bouncing everything outside, but the skill set is there for him to be a workhorse and the centerpiece of a run-based offense.
- Shows a surprising burst to beat linebackers to the edge. Can plant his foot in the ground and explode, showing better straight-line speed than expected.
- Balanced runner maintains low pad level and has the power to keep moving after initial contact.
- Brooks has very good vision and a knack for picking out cut-back lanes and then breaking offchunks of yardage.
- He is a savvy workhorse runner who maximizes his physical gifts. Brooks runs with excellent vision and patience, showing a strong understanding of how his blocks are developing and where the gaps are going to open.
- His competitiveness and knack for high-pointing the ball allow him to play bigger than his size.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Brooks really isn’t a burner and doesn’t have elite suddenness, which is problematic considering his average size.
- Brooks is more of an inside runner than a perimeter threat, more of a north-south mover than someone who is going to create.
- While he’s a handful once Brooks starts going downfield, he isn’t going to run away from tacklers at the second and third levels.
